Idelwild Entrance Work
Thanks for your inquiry, and for noticing the improvements underway at the Mallard entrance to our neighborhood. As was discussed at the Annual Membership Meeting, your Board has been working toward upgrading this entryway. After studies and planning, we have hired Richardson Landscaping to do the work. The improvements will include (1) new lighting to improve the visibility and look of the brickwork/signage; (2) all new shrubbery flanking the entrance and on the island, and (3) bringing the inground irrigation system back up to 100%.
The work is underway. As with any such job, the uprooting of the old growth takes place quickly, while the placement of the irrigation improvements and new shrubbery goes somewhat more slowly. We appreciate everyone's patience, and believe you'll like the new and improved look of Idlewild's main entrance when all is done. As new developments spring up, we want to keep Idlewild among Sumter's preferred residential communities. And while an improved entryway will help, it is up to every homeowner in the Association to do their part, by keeping their properties properly landscaped and maintained. Our combined efforts that will help to protect all of our individual property values.
Let me also take this opportunity to mention that to date, there have been no email responses to the "Idlewild Grounds Maintenance" message posted on this site. We are moving forward to arrange the best possible grounds maintenance service. And to those who have not already done so, the receipt of your annual dues payment would be most appreciated. To those who have already taken care of this, many thanks!
On bahalf of your Board,
Jamie Eldridge

Street Re-surfacing
The streets within Idlewild are in bad need of resurfacing as we all know. There are some intersections (i.e. Muscovy & Mallard) where the holes are quite deep & wide. If you’d like to contact the City to ask them to re-surface Idlewild roads, you can contact them using the info below (from the city website):
January Newsletter

- parking oversized and commercial vehicles in a manner other than in back of the residence and out of view of the street.
We remind all Idlewild Homeowners that if they allow tenants to rent, lease or otherwise live in their Idlewild home, the tenants are subject to our Restrictive Covenants as well, and should be provided with a copy before taking occupancy. Idlewild Grounds Maintenance
As was reported during the recent annual Homeowner’s meeting, we have written a new Grounds Maintenance Specification and are considering changing contractors for maintaining our entranceways and islands. The reason for this is that Homeowners Association has heard that there are residents who are unhappy with the quality of service that the current contractor (Top Lawn) is providing. Before we send the new specification out to potential contractors for bidding we want to discuss our grievances with Top Lawn and let them know that we are soliciting bids and may be terminating our contract with them. Please help us prepare a list of grievances by sending an email to jceldr@aol.com . Be as specific as you can be with your complaint.
Leaf Fires
In recent weeks we have had numerous incidents of leaf fires throughout Idlewild and other Sumter residential areas. The fires are being set to leaf piles that have been placed near the road for the Monday trash pick up by the city of Sumter. These acts of arson have taken place primarily after midnight primarily on Saturday nights/Sunday mornings. This has been reported to the Police Department and an article appeared in the Sumter Item. What can we do to help prevent future occurrences? If possible, please bag your yard debris and wait until Sunday evening or Monday morning to place it near the road. This will provide the additional benefit of keeping the neighborhood looking neat. Thank you for your cooperation.
